What tools we use? Series 2: Social Networks

For today’s freelancers and artists in general, including illustrators, designers, letterers, musicians… social networks are vital for survival. I was just chatting with a friend about how important it is to communicate, create a network, and show your work to friends and contacts.

We know that it’s somewhat overwhelming at times, keeping up with Twitter, Dribbble, Facebook, Society 6, Behance, Bandcamp, Google Plus… but you should try to manage all of these. Here are some comments from the Black Format team on this subject:

Piktorama:
I think twitter is the best because is easy, friendly and straight to the point, so you don’t waste so much time navigating all over other peoples business. You make a great community of the things you like, meet awesome people and learn stuff from time to time :)

Bubi:
My fav social network : twitter, coz i like its instant and short message for broadcasting to the world and many apps i use which is easily broadcasted the photos and message through twitter. i also meet many creative peeps in twitter.

Muxxi:
I would say twitter is at the top. The reason: it’s a really quick and easy way to share my work with the world and is a nice way to see what others are doing too. In my experience I have been contacted through this social network by creative people to participate in important shows, also I get the oportunity to work with clients and other interesting projects around the world.

Wilmer Murillo:
My favorite social tool has been Tumblr for a while. Why? Becase it’s very simple to share my work over there, it’s very customizable and integrable with my website. Also, since it’s a very large community, you can build a good network with many creatives .

However, I’m loving Google+ too since it launched. It has many awesome features for self-promotion. (Recommended read: 10 ways Google+ is better than Facebook for creative Freelancers).

Camilo Bejarano:
I find dribbble extremely helpful not only for finding work, but to get inspiration. Twitter is my second favorite, even though it has become saturated, its a great way to meet people and keep up with the latest from them. It’s not always all about you!
